About Us
Our Story
Coffee is one of the world’s most popular beverages and it is consumed by an estimated 80% of the population.
Maakiou Coffee Estate has a long history of coffee farming and commercial dairy production. It was established in 1920 by white settlers at a time when it was only white settlers who could plant coffee. Later it was acquired by a Greek couple, MAMMATAS and APOSTOLOS at independence in 1963. The name roots its origin from the initial of the couple MAA and the KIU (KIOU) River which neighbors the farm.
The farm changed ownership in 1974 when it was acquired by its present owners, Mawara Investments Ltd.
The farm is located at Kamiti Road, Kiamumbi Location, Kiambu Sub-County, Kiambu county, 15km from Nairobi CBD and accessible through Kamiti Road or Northern by-pass via Ngomongo respectively.
